Our Mission

Our mission is to provide, promote, and foster the growth of "Hockey"
here in the Newton area. Randy Velischek once said while addressing a large group of middle school student's at Halsted Middle
School (2004), "Ice hockey is more than just a game, it's what goes on before, during, and after the game
in the rink, and that is the sum of all its parts. The social interaction between players, parents, fans, and coaches,
that make the game great."
Our History

Newton Hockey Program was founded by 24 students of Halsted Middle
School back in the Fall of 1995. Jim Hofmann a new teacher of Technology at the school was approached by his students about
helping start a program. They met after school one day for about
30 minutes. In that meeting Mr. Hofmann told the kids that if they organized and went about it the right way, they would eventually
get what they were after. "It won't happen overnight, but it will happen."That was where the whole thing started. Nancy &
Jim Spadola along with Mike Depue Sr. at the time helped organize
and gathered momentum to approach the town of Newton to allow us to utilize a parking lot near the ball fields at Memory park.
This required parents and volunteers working together to meet prior
to every Saturday & Sunday morning, to set up and take down the curved boards which made up the rink end boards. Each
weekend this would be done over and over until five years later when the town council recognized our true commitment. Even
some of the (6th)-(8th) graders helped construct those boards in
Mr. Hofmann's garage at that time after school. What a lesson that was.
