In order to be eligible to work USA Hockey InLine-sanctioned
games, Referees must be completely registered. Currently, the USA Hockey InLine Officiating Education Program has three different
registration classifications, "Approved", "Accredited", and "Certified". The "Approved" classification is a 30-day probationary
classification. To be eligible after the 30-days a referee must meet the requirements of the "Accredited" or "Certified" classification.
The first step in becoming an
official is to register with USA Hockey InLine as an official. To do this, one must complete a current USA Hockey InLine Referee
Registration Form and return it with the registration fee ($30) to the USA Hockey InLine National Office. There are several
ways to receive an registration form. First a referee may download the USA Hockey InLine
Referee Registration Form from this web site. Next an official may contact their Zone Referee-in-Chief, Local Referee-in-Chief or Local League to obtain a registration form. Finally, an official may
contact Rob Coggin, Officiating Program Coordinator by calling (800) 888-4656 ext. 119 and giving him their name and address
requesting a form be sent to them.
In all cases, once the registration form is
received at the USA Hockey InLine National Office, the referee will have met the requirements of the first classification,
"Approved". At that time the official is eligible to referee USA Hockey InLine sanctioned games for a probationary time of
30 days and will receive a TEMPORARY REFEREE CERTIFICATE in the mail.
Along with the TEMPORARY REFEREE CERTIFICATE
will be an open book exam and rulebook. As the USA Hockey InLine Rulebook is valid for two season, returning officials receive
the rulebook every other year. The exam consists of 50 questions covering various rules. By completing the exam and answering
at least 35 out of the 50 questions correct (70%), an official will have met the requirements of the second classification,
"Accredited" and will be sent a referee crest to proudly display on their referee jersey.
The final step is to attend a USA Hockey InLine
Referee Clinic. These clinics are generally held between March and June and then again between August and December. They last
from 4 to 6 hours and include both classroom and surface time. A complete listing of currently scheduled clinics in listed
under Referee Clinics. This list is continuously updated as new clinics are scheduled. By registering, passing the exam and attending a USA Hockey
InLine Referee Clinic, a referee will have met the requirements of the "Certified" classification.
USA Hockey InLine Referee Registrations are
accepted from April 1 through February 28 of the following year. Membership expires May 31st each year and all portions of
the registration process must be renewed annually. For further information, contact either your Zone Referee-in-Chief or the
USA Hockey InLine national office at (800) 888-4656.
